Cost Engineer - Product Development

As a cost engineer you will be part of the team of product development engineers of the business unit ACE; Alfen Charging Equipment. In this role, you will be involved in the systematic analysis of production processes, production techniques, materials and design choices. This involves supporting the project teams during each phase of the development process to provide realistic cost price estimates. You also set cost price targets and are in close contact with the (strategic) purchasing department. It is your job to see if the proposed cost price is acceptable.

For product design and manufacturing, among other things, you use bottom-up analysis and identify potential costs by using the most cost-efficient (production) processes/ material parameters. You also apply engineering skills to bring the actual cost of the product closer to the target cost. In addition, you know how to identify and implement cost-down opportunities from our current products and help estimate potential cost implications of engineering change orders. This means that you will also collaborate with product lifecycle engineers, supply-chain, after-sales and our own production staff.

In addition to the above tasks, your duties will include the following:

• Cost status overview per stage gate (NPD);
• Use cost and value engineering techniques (VAVE) to create additional value and/or reduce costs. In addition, perform ''should cost analyses'';
• Identify/create insights into key cost drivers with respect to the (new) product/process;
• Tracking and providing insight into the target costs versus realized (BOM) costs during product development;
• Make the impact of material and design choices clear to the team and identify costs for design alternatives.

What do we ask of you?

For a good match we are looking for an independent and driven candidate. You will have a lot of freedom, as you will be able to design this position yourself. Because you will be interacting with various teams, we are looking for someone with good communication skills in both Dutch and English. Furthermore we would like to see in your CV that you have:

• A completed college education in a technical discipline (e.g., WTB, IO);
• Revelant knowledge and experience in cost engineering and value engineering;
• Experience with cost engineering software - such as APriori, for example;
• In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques and parameters, with a focus on injection molding and sheet metal;
• Knowledge of obtaining and using cost data of (production) processes/materials/machines/overhead;
• Able to start building cost estimates with associated set up tools.
