Type of internships

Alfen offers plenty of opportunity to Dutch vmbo, mbo, hbo or university students to gain work experience in a dynamic environment. You are supervised by professional staff with an enormous vocational passion and a huge drive to share their know-how and experience with you. They give you the chance to apply theory and convert it into practice.

Vmbo 'job tasters'

Alfen offers vmbo pupils the chance to experience the company for themselves. This can be for a week or even longer. For example: one day in the week for a few months, or six consecutive weeks.

During these job tasters, you are an integral cog in the wheel on the transformer or charging station production floor. Your working day starts at 07:45, you take a lunch break with your colleagues at 12:00 and head off home at 16:15. You experience life in the workplace. This helps you to form an informed and conscious opinion about your further education options.

And if you like us and we like you? Then the next step is enrolment in our in-house training centre, where you kick off at mbo level 2, or you choose a holiday job at Alfen. Be advised that you will not receive any pocket money if you take advantage of a job tasting opportunity.

Mbo BOL

If working and learning at the same time is not your thing, and you have decided to pursue a BOL-training course, then Alfen can think along with you here too. Every year we can offer a number of places to BOL-trainees. We offer mbo-internships on our Logistics department, at ICT or in the Marketing division as well as places on the production floor.

You get started on the assignments you were given at school while playing your part in the team. During your internship, you'll receive a gross amount of €200 every month (=40 hours). And if you like us and we like you? Then there is always the possibility of enrolment in the Alfen Academy or starting a vacation job.

Alfen has been recognised by the SBB for various of its training programmes in the field of electrical engineering and process industry, transport, shipping and logistics, ICT, economics and admin. In 2017, we were chosen from a pool of 230,000 training companies as the nationwide Training Company of the Year. We also received regional accolades as Training Company of the Year on three previous occasions: in 2009, 2013 and 2014.

Hbo working experience and graduation internships

For you as an hbo student, Alfen can offer both work experience traineeships and final thesis projects. These opportunities mostly become available on support staff departments such as HR and the Project Office, or in our R&D division. This is where you can get involved with drawing up improvement proposals or conducting research and development. The ultimate objective is always to create a win-win situation. For you, obtain your study grades and certificate; for us, you must add value to our organisation.

During your traineeship, you'll receive a gross amount of €500 every month (=40 hours). A number of our interns and graduates join Alfen as soon as they gain their certificate. When we and you are on the same page and there is a job vacancy, this could be an interesting option for you too.

University-level working experience and final thesis project

The university-level internships and final thesis projects that Alfen has on offer are typically in the field of electrical engineering and innovation. You help us in product improvement or innovation of our transformer stations, charging stations or energy storage systems.
