Information about the Alfen Academy

At the Alfen Academy, we welcome new students each year in both February and September. Here you will find comprehensive details about the admission requirements, the weekly program, available training levels, mentoring, benefits, salary, and the support you can expect. If you're already excited, don't hesitate to apply immediately!

Our intake times are in February and September each year. We also offer "taster internships" to assess whether our organization suits you. During these internships, for example, you work one day a week with our practical supervisors to discover whether engineering interests you and whether this work suits you.

It is also possible to get acquainted with us during the summer by doing vacation work. This way you can experience what it is like to work as an apprentice mechanic and earn some extra money at the same time.

Recognized MBO training

In cooperation with the Deltion College in Zwolle, a recognized Regional Training Center (ROC), we offer a Beroeps Begeleidende Leerweg (BBL) training program. This training consists mainly of practical learning, where you work in practice and attend school one day a week.

Admission Requirements:

To participate in our business school, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. A VMBO diploma in basic vocational, framework vocational, mixed, or theoretical studies.

  2. A diploma from LBO, VBO, MAVO, or MAVO/VBO, with all subjects completed at least B level.

  3. A transition certificate from HAVO 3 to HAVO 4, or from VWO 3 to VWO 4.

  4. A diploma or approved certificate approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

  5. A diploma at MBO level 1.

In addition to the above criteria, it is important to know that the Alfen Academy is only provided in Dutch. Your knowledge of the Dutch language should be at least level A2. Not sure if you have a good command of the Dutch language? Feel free to contact us. Together we can see if you can participate, or possibly find another solution.

What does your week look like?

Five days a week you will be present at our location in Almere. Every day you will be ready to start at 07.45! Do you still need to change into company clothes or would you like a drink? Then make sure you are present earlier. During this week you will work 4 days at the production and have 1 day a week a classroom lesson. Workdays end at 4:15 p.m.

Alfen has three business units, each of which is divided into different workplaces. To ensure that you are trained as broadly as possible, your workplace changes every three months. For example, one period you may be working on rack construction, and the following period you may be working on energy storage systems.

What education are you taking?

You start with the Mechanic Mechatronics training at level 2. Once you have successfully completed this training, you can choose to continue your education. To continue, you must have a positive recommendation from the teachers, your supervisors and the practical supervisor. You can also choose not to continue learning and take a position that suits your level of education.

In the overview above, you probably noticed that the level 4 courses are not in Almere, but taught at the Deltion College in Zwolle. It is common for several students to follow this training at the same time, which often leads to joint carpooling to school. Both study costs and travel expenses are reimbursed by Alfen for these courses as well.

Continuing

Once you start, you have an empty workday. In most cases, this will lasts 2 years. Because every training takes place with a diploma, a discussion takes place about the next phase. There are three options:

1.A work agreement for on-site work on a large work surface;

2. Level 3 door flow with a never-ending need for empty work. You will then continue to rotate between workplaces every quarter;

3. Progression to level 3 with work agreement for on-site work, regardless of how the work area is rolled.
