Tell us about yourself and how you came to work at Alfen
I’m 36 years old and live in the lovely city of Amersfoort (NL). I'm married and a proud parent of two adorable little girls, ages one and three. I joined Alfen in November 2018 after a career path that included telecommunications and a brief stint in air traffic control. My interest in the energy transition and desire to see the impact of my work led me to Alfen, where I initially started as a bid manager before transitioning to sales.
What do you enjoy most about working at Alfen?
The people make all the difference. Our team is incredibly motivated and passionate, which creates a great working environment. The dynamic nature of the energy storage sector is also exciting. Projects keep getting larger and more innovative, and there’s always something new to learn.
What’s unique about your involvement in the Flevobess project?
The scale of the project is remarkable; it’s one of our largest battery energy storage systems to date. I enjoyed working closely with the clients, many of whom are new to battery systems. Explaining our solutions and seeing their understanding grow was very rewarding. The collaboration required us to guide them through the process, which fits well with Alfen’s consultative approach.
How do you contribute to teamwork at Alfen?
Good communications is key. As a sales manager, I often act as a bridge between departments, making sure everyone is aligned and informed. I also value taking time to appreciate colleagues’ efforts, even during busy periods. Recognising contributions helps foster a supportive and collaborative atmosphere.
What motivates you in your work?
I’m driven by the idea of contributing to Europe’s energy transition to net zero. Knowing that my work helps leave a better world for my children is rewarding. While it’s a business, and we need to be commercially successful, I feel proud to work for a company that aligns with my values.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
When I’m not working, I enjoy playing padel regularly. It’s a great way to stay active and socialise. I also love skiing in the winter, going out for dinner with friends, and spending quality time with my wife and daughters. Life with young kids keeps me busy but incredibly fulfilling.
How would you describe yourself outside of work?
I’m a sociable and loyal person. I enjoy meeting new people and being part of different groups, but my family always comes first. I’m a real family man, and I value the time I get to spend with my wife and kids.
Any advice for those interested in the energy sector?
It’s a dynamic and evolving field, so you need to be adaptable and willing to learn. A passion for technology and a collaborative mindset are essential for success. Additionally, good communications is very important; it is key to working effectively in teams and with clients.”
