What will you do?
As an Embedded Software Test Engineer at Alfen, you will focus on testing and improving the software for our electric vehicle charging solutions (ACE, Alfen Charging Equipment). Our software manages various functionalities, such as back-office integration, load balancing, OCPP communication, vehicle-to-grid, and real-time energy tariffs. You have a passion for technology and experience in testing embedded control systems.
You will be part of the development team and work closely with the testing department and the CI/CD team within an Agile development environment. You will develop and maintain test protocols, execute tests, and create clear test reports. Additionally, you will suggest improvements and work on test automation.
Your tasks and responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with developers, product owners, and stakeholders to ensure quality and mitigate risks;
- Participating in team process activities (stand-ups, planning, reviews, and retrospectives);
- Identifying issues and bottlenecks early in the development process;
- Improving test processes and performing tests within an Agile development team;
- Identifying user stories and test routines;
- Contributing to test automation (based on Behavioral Driven Development and Python scripts);
- Developing and maintaining complex test setups;
- Conducting root-cause analysis using tools such as a debugger, logic analyzer, or oscilloscope.
At the R&D & Engineering department, we work on innovative solutions for the future of energy. Within the Test & Compliance team, specialists in test automation, software, hardware, embedded systems, and electrical engineering collaborate to further professionalize our testing strategy.
What do we ask of you?
For this role, we are looking for a test professional with a structured and proactive approach. You are detail-oriented, strong in communication, and able to report test results clearly. Additionally, you bring:
- A bachelor's degree in (Embedded) Software, Technical Informatics, Robotics, or a similar field;
- Experience in software testing within an Agile Scrum environment and test automation (Jenkins, Python);
- Affinity with high-tech product development and electrical products in the manufacturing industry;
- Experience in designing and building embedded test setups;
- Interest in defining and improving test processes;
- Experience with OT (Operational Technology) and industrial automation is a plus;
- Excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language;
- Knowledge of OCPP, ISO15118, and IEC61851 is a plus;
- Experience with Agile/Scrum processes and working in a cross-functional team is a plus.
Given the nature of the role and collaboration with on-site teams, it is important that you live within a reasonable commuting distance from Almere.
