New subsidy in Germany for EV charging in multi-residential buildings: what it covers and how to apply
Germany has introduced a new subsidy programme to accelerate the deployment of EV charging infrastructure in and around multi-residential buildings ("Mehrparteienhäuser"). The scheme supports companies and property owners investing in charging for tenants, fleets and operational use.
Applications open from 15 April 2026 and run until November 2026—or earlier if funds are exhausted. With funding limited and demand expected to be high, early preparation is essential.
What the programme covers
The subsidy focuses on charging infrastructure in and around multi-residential buildings, including:
- Pre-cabling of parking spaces
- Installation of AC charging points (up to 22 kW)
- Grid connection and associated construction works
- Technical systems required for operation
The programme is open to, among others, SMEs and companies with larger property portfolios.
Funding levels and conditions
- Up to €1,300 per space for pre-cabling only
- Up to €1,500 per space including a charging point
- Up to €2,000 per space for bidirectional-ready charging
Funding typically covers up to 70% of eligible costs within these limits.
Key conditions include:
- At least 20% of parking spaces must be pre-cabled (minimum 6 spaces)
- Infrastructure must not be publicly accessible
- Electricity must come from renewable sources
- Projects may only start after approval
What this means in practice
Projects must move beyond individual chargers towards scalable, system-level solutions that:
- Operate within existing grid capacity
- Enable central control and load management
- Integrate with energy and backend systems
- Remain adaptable to future requirements, such as bidirectional charging
Poorly prepared projects risk rejection or reduced funding.
Suitable charging solutions for this programme
Alfen's Eve Single Plus (DE) and Eve Double Plus (DE) are designed to support these types of projects. Both solutions are suitable for multi-residential applications and are built on a future-ready platform, including support for ISO 15118-20 for advanced smart charging and bidirectional capabilities.
