Alfen has supplied a battery energy storage system (BESS) to TrønderEnergi, one of Norway's largest utilities and grid operators. The BESS has a capacity of 548 kWh and can be used for various applications.
The battery energy storage system has been installed on a farm. In this case, it provides peak shaving and off-grid services for the existing power system of a wind turbine and solar panels.
Other applications to be explored in the future include combining the BESS with electric vehicle charging infrastructure, backup power for islands, grid stabilization in rural areas, and the use of the BESS in ports to generate clean onshore power for vessels.
