Are you ready to drive the energy transition forward? Do you possess a deep-rooted passion for sustainable technology and products? Are you eager to contribute to our growth and success? If so, we want to hear from you!

As a cost engineer you will be part of the team of product development engineers of the business unit ACE (Alfen Charging Equipment). In this role, you will be involved in the systematic analysis of production processes, production techniques, materials and design choices. This involves supporting the project teams during each phase of the development process to provide realistic cost price estimates. You also set cost price targets and are in close contact with the (strategic) purchasing department. It is your job to see if the proposed cost price is acceptable.

For product design and manufacturing, among other things, you use bottom-up analysis and identify potential costs by using the most cost-efficient (production) processes/ material parameters. In addition, you know how to identify and implement cost-down opportunities from our current products and help estimate potential cost implications of engineering change orders. This means that you will also collaborate with product lifecycle engineers, supply-chain, after-sales and our own production staff.

In addition to the above tasks, your duties will include the following:

  • Maintain a comprehensive cost status overview per stage gate (NPD).
  • Track and analyze target costs versus realized (BOM) costs during product development stages.
  • Utilize cost and value engineering techniques (VAVE) to enhance value and/or reduce costs, including conducting "should cost analyses."
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering teams in implementing VAVE principles and best practices throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Identify and provide insights into key cost drivers related to product/process enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain cost models to evaluate the financial impact of proposed design changes and process improvements.
  • Monitor and track cost-saving initiatives to ensure their successful implementation and measure their impact on overall cost performance.

What do we offer you?

An independent and responsible job with room for personal input, new ideas, initiatives and entrepreneurship. Alfen is a fast growing company with a clear focus on conquering the market and focusing on the energy transition. All this takes place in a pleasant, open and informal working atmosphere where, in addition to work, activities are also part of Alfen's culture. Examples include an online escaperoom or entertaining quiz, a bowling night, a visit to Almere City games, mudflat hiking and more.

Naturally, we offer you an appropriate benefits package including a phone and laptop and you are entitled to 27 days vacation + 13 ADV per year. We think it is important that you can relax regularly. In addition, you will have motivated colleagues who are willing to share knowledge and we will give you opportunities to develop as a professional.

What do we ask of you?

We are seeking an independent and driven candidate who is passionate about pioneering and shaping the future of this new position. Your expertise will be instrumental as you implement tools, develop innovative approaches, and drive meaningful change.

Furthermore we would like to see in your CV that you have:

  • Relevant experience and expertise in cost engineering and value engineering.
  • Proficiency in cost engineering software, such as APriori.
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing techniques and parameters, particularly in injection molding and sheet metal.
  • Familiarity with acquiring and utilizing cost data related to production processes, materials, machinery, and overhead.
  • Ability to generate accurate cost estimates using associated tools.
