As Lead Product Development Engineer, you will be working within our R&D Department for our business unit Alfen Charging Equipment (ACE), strengthening the New Product Development (NPD) team.  

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of the product throughout all phases of the NPD process. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Production Engineering, Electrical, Quality and others, you will translate product ideas for our integrated and high-quality EV chargers from concept to final product design, ensuring readiness for mass production. 

Furthermore, you partner up with the project manager to realize the project within time and budget constraints. 

Tasks & Responsibilities 

  • Represent the department in multidisciplinary projects; 
  • Responsible to deliver and release the complete and validated final product; 
  • Challenge and inspire the team to develop feasible and innovative design concepts; 
  • Translate system requirements into measurable sub-system requirements; 
  • Setup the product’s verification/validation by means of a solid test program in alignment with the quality & test teams; 

Furthermore, you will support engineers/sub-system owners in decision-making and reviewing the chosen design principles; initiate risk analyses (e.g. dFMEA); safeguard the technical integrity and completeness of the product (within our PLM system); ensure compliance with laws, regulations, industry standards, and sustainability requirements; approve and release the product definition for technical validation, industrialization, and mass production; align with the project manager on overall project and product progress; collaborate closely with various R&D disciplines to monitor technical progress, identify potential delays, and initiate solutions to prevent setbacks and cooperate with the future Technical Owner(s) to hand over the complete Product Definition to the Product Lifecycle team.

What do we ask?

For a good match we would like to see in your resume that you have:  

  • 10+ years of experience, with a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; 
  • Proficiency in English, with strong communication skills essential;
  • Proficient in stakeholder management, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among diverse parties involved in projects;
  • Skilled in leading engineering teams, fostering productivity and achieving project goals efficiently;
  • Proficiency in creating and evaluating clean 3D models and precise 2D drawings (preferably using Creo), along with experience utilizing Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (preferably Windchill); 
  • Experience with various production processes, assembly techniques, quality assurance, and testing methods (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, packaging, end-of-line processes, etc.).
