As the Lead Product Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the Mechanical Engineering team (R&D) in the Alfen Charging Equipment (ACE) business unit. We're seeking a result driven individual who can provide functional management and coaching to fellow engineers while leading the way in innovation for our in-market products. Collaboration with various departments will be essential as we tackle diverse challenges, including production-related issues (for our own production facility here in Almere), Engineering Change Management, product upgrades, cost reductions, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Functional Management and Coaching: Manage and coach the sub-team of 5-6 Product LifeCycle engineers, ensuring tasks are divided effectively, and employees receive the guidance they need to excel. Your results-driven approach will motivate team members to unleash their full potential and foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Hands-on and actively contribute in the different tasks in the team. You’re in between the team and run your own projects and tasks. Can be in CAD, data & BOM management, ECM and leading certain 8D’s
  • Guidance and Innovative Working Methods: Lead by example, by bringing assertiveness and a proactive approach to the role. Help to establish new working methods and templates to ensure a uniform approach. Monitor and steer the team towards efficient and effective work practices.
  • Project Execution and Collaboration: Oversee the correct execution of activities in close cooperation with different R&D disciplines. Monitor technical progress, identify potential delays, and initiate solutions to prevent or minimize setbacks.
  • Strategic Decision Making: Take a holistic view of planning and technical progress in Engineering Change Management. Provide critical direction on mechanical solutions, guiding the PLM team in making informed decisions.
  • Product Optimization and Simplification: Drive product simplifications, upgrades, cost reductions, and integrations with a focus on DfX methodology. Ensure the product design meets quality, cost, and performance targets.
  • Employee Assessments and Feedback: Offer valuable input to the Team Lead PDE about employee assessments, recognizing and appreciating the team's efforts.

What do we ask?

Your assertiveness and results-driven nature, characteristic of a "Red" personality type, will be essential in leading the team effectively and motivating them to achieve success. Your ability to ask the right questions and provide valuable coaching and guidance to your fellow LifeCycle engineers will also be critical for success.

Besides a portfolio with relevant projects you have worked on (optional, depending on your background), for a good match we would like to see in your resume that you have:

  • 10+ years of experience with at least a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Industrial Design Engineering;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Understanding of Engineering Change Management processes;
  • Proven track record as Lead Engineer, leading a group of Mechanical / Industrial design Engineers;
  • Ability to create high-level work breakdown structures and prioritize effectively;
  • Experience with 3D CAD software. Creo is preferred.
  • Experience with product data management (PDM / PLM) software. Windchill is preferred.
