As Senior Product Development Engineer, you will be working within our Research and Development department (R&D). With various technical disciplines, the R&D department is responsible for development inquiries for our three business units: The Battery (Energy Storage Systems), Smart Grid Solutions (Transformer Stations) and Alfen Charging Equipment (Charging Stations). 

In your role as Product Development Engineer, you will be working for our business unit Charging Equipment. You will be responsible for strengthening the Produce Lifecycle team. In this role, you get the technical responsibility for one of our Chargers. Innovating our in-market products and collaborating with various departments to tackle diverse challenges; like production related issues (for our own production facility here in Almere), product upgrades, cost downs etc. 

Next to that, the following tasks belong to your functional profile: 

  • Safeguarding the technical health of a product(group);
  • Lead (ECM) Engineering Change Management for your product(group); 
  • Working on, and ensuring, completion of technical documentation within the PLM environment of all existing parts for manufacturing; 
  • Working on product simplifications (such as part reductions), upgrades (e.g. new features, improving validation results of existing products etc.), cost downs and integrations (e.g. integrating new PCBA platforms into our products); 
  • Develop products, modules and parts which meet the requirements and evaluate DfA & DfM.
  • Document and maintain the design into a full 3D & 2D definition and Bill of Materials (mainly sheet metals and plastic injection molding, but also electrical components);

Moreover, your ability to connect multiple disciplines within the organization will be crucial for fostering collaboration and driving successful cross-functional change initiatives.

For a good match we would like to see in your resume that you have: 

  • 10+ years of experience with at least a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Industrial Design Engineering. Or proven track record and extend work-experience on bachelor level; 
  • Strong communication skills (fluent in English); 
  • Excellent stakeholder management
  • Experience with “Issue-management” and taking active ownership
  • Affection with (consumer) electronics, wiring harnesses and e.g. electrical heat dissipation
  • Basic project management skills. Ability to make your own (and optional your direct coworker) work breakdown and schedule tasks tasks in a timely matter; 
  • Ability to make and assess clean 3D models and clear 2D drawings (Creo preferred) and experience with product data management (PLM) software. (Windchill preferred); 
  • Experience with (mass)production, assembly, quality and test techniques (e.g. injection molding, sheet metal, packaging, end-of-line, etc)
