Alfen to supply off-grid energy storage system to Ibogem in Belgium
Ibogem, a Belgian intermunicipal cooperation, selected Alfen to supply an energy storage system for its site in Beveren. The storage system will enable Ibogem to power its forklift trucks with solar energy that is generated during the day from its rooftop solar PV installation.
Wim Beeldens, General Director at Ibogem comments: “Our company focusses on the collection and processing of household waste, we run several recycling shops and we own a green composting site. This storage system ideally fits our company’s vision, as it will help us to increase the self-consumption of solar energy. Over time we also consider to add wind energy to our portfolio to further facilitate energy self-sufficiency, also in the winter periods.”
Yves Vercammen, sales manager at Alfen, comments: “The fact that this is a fully off-grid energy system makes it really unique. With our battery storage system, Ibogem’s generated solar energy can be used for their own operations, also when the sun is not shining. We have supplied these kind of off-grid systems before, for example at a cacao manufacturer in Africa, where we combined a large solar PV farm with a storage and energy management system to create an autonomous sustainable energy system. We look forward to further build on our relationship with Ibogem.”
The project is expected to be delivered in Q4 2018.
