Alfen supports Electra to open first fast charging station in the Netherlands

Almere, 19 November 2024 - Electra, a specialist in fast charging, opened its first fast charging location in the Netherlands this week. Six fast charge points on the A15 motorway in Sliedrecht are powered by an Alfen Diabolo transformer station, which provides the electricity needed to fast charge electric vehicles.

Alfen is supporting fast charging expert Electra as the technology partner to provide electricity with the Diabolo 20H transformer substation (630kVA). Thanks to its modular design, the Diabolo cabin was quickly installed in Sliedrecht, which is important to meet the fast-growing demand for charging facilities.

"The iconic Diabolo station with customer-specific design helps us deliver powerful, reliable and future-proof power to the new generation of fast chargers,’ says Pieter van der Meij, Sales manager for smart grid solutions at Alfen. "By working with partners like Electra, we are accelerating the expansion of the charging network and supporting Europe’s transition to carbon-free energy sources. We are therefore pleased to already be in talks with Electra about 2 new sites after opening the first one this week."

This project builds on previous successes in Belgium, where Electra and Alfen are already working together to roll out charging hubs. To date, we have opened 13 sites together in that country. In addition, Electra sells Alfen’s AC charging stations in France.

"Electra has great ambitions in the Netherlands,” said Louis-Charles Mosseray, Managing Director for Electra Benelux. “We see great growth opportunities in the Netherlands where only 3% of charging points can offer fast (DC) charging. After Malta, this is the lowest level in Europe."

Electra's ambitious expansion plans became clear during the festive opening of the fast charger in Sliedrecht. With previous sites in France, Belgium, Italy and other European countries, the company plans to install as many as 15,000 fast charging points in 2,200 locations by 2030.
