Become a Business Unit Controller at Alfen and drive the financial performance of your business unit. As the strategic partner to the Business Unit Director, you deliver data driven insights, enable profitable growth, and ensure a strong planning & control process.

What will you do?

As Business Unit Controller, you are end‑to‑end responsible for the P&L of your business unit. You deliver sharp analyses, identify risks and opportunities early, and actively support management in making strategic decisions. You work closely with commercial, operational, and supply chain teams and are part of the Business Unit Management Team.

Your responsibilities include:

P&L Management & Financial Steering

  • Owning the full P&L, including revenue, margin, cost structure, and EBIT.
  • Conducting periodic financial analyses and aligning improvement actions with the MT.
  • Developing and monitoring KPIs, dashboards, and performance reports.
  • Advising on pricing, cost‑to‑serve, product mix, and margin optimisation.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategy

  • Leading the annual budgeting and multi‑year planning process for the business unit.
  • Preparing rolling forecasts and performing scenario analyses.
  • Translating market developments into financial impact assessments.
  • Advising on investments, portfolio choices, and optimal resource allocation.

Business Partnering

  • Acting as the primary financial sparring partner to the Business Unit Director.
  • Supporting commercial, operational, and supply chain teams with business cases and investment analyses.
  • Proactively identifying risks, opportunities, and performance improvements.
  • Clearly presenting financial insights to stakeholders at all levels.

Process Improvement & Data Quality

  • Driving improvements in financial processes, systems, and data flows.
  • Collaborating with Finance Operations, BI, and Data teams to professionalise reporting.
  • Stimulating automation, standardisation, and scalable planning & control processes.
  • Contributing to the Finance Roadmap and the continuous development of the department.

HSE (Health, Safety & Environment)

  • Working in accordance with all QHSE standards and AIM procedures.
  • Safeguarding safety, quality, and compliance in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

What do we ask of you?

  • Academic degree in Economics or Finance; RA/RC qualification is a strong advantage.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in financial control or business controlling.
  • Strong experience with IT, data warehousing, BI tools, and data‑driven reporting.
  • Experience in project‑based, production, or international environments is a plus.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills; able to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • Strong stakeholder management, problem‑solving ability, and strategic thinking.
  • Demonstrated ownership of P&L results and key financial processes.

Where will you be working?

You will work within the Business Unit Control Team, part of the Finance & Control department, and you will be part of the MT of your business unit. You collaborate closely with Finance colleagues, BI teams, and operational departments. With your expertise, you strengthen financial control, professionalise processes, and drive sustainable performance improvements.
