Contract Manager Service – Energy Storage Systems (ESS)

What will you do?

As a Contract Manager Service, you are the contract owner for complex, performance‑driven service contracts within Energy Storage Systems (ESS). You design, structure, and negotiate contracts in which KPIs, risk‑sharing, performance frameworks and financial results are central. You actively manage profitability, performance, and risks throughout the entire lifecycle of our assets.

You work closely with Service, Operations, Projects, Finance, Legal, and customers. Thanks to your insights and leadership, contract objectives seamlessly align with operational execution.

Your responsibilities include:

Contract Management

• Full lifecycle ownership of service contracts: design, negotiations, execution, modifications, renewals, and termination.
• Designing and structuring long‑term outcome‑based contracts, including KPIs, incentive models and governance frameworks.
• Steering contract profitability (P&L), margin optimisation, and long‑term value creation.
• Monitoring and optimising SLAs, KPIs, performance frameworks and compliance.
• Identifying and mitigating commercial, technical, and operational risks.
• Leading negotiations with customers on new contracts, renewals, modifications, and claims.
• Ensuring effective contract governance, documentation and change management.
• Translating contract objectives into asset lifecycle strategies.

Process Improvement

• Initiating and implementing improvements in contract management processes.
• Developing and standardising contract models, KPI frameworks and governance structures.
• Implementing best practices for performance‑based and asset‑based contracting.
• Translating lessons learned into new commercial propositions.
• Driving digitalisation and data‑driven performance management.

Operational Alignment & Performance Steering

• Translating contractual obligations into clear operational deliverables.
• Steering service and operations teams on KPIs such as availability, response times, maintenance efficiency, and lifecycle costs.
• Detecting and resolving performance issues, deviations, and escalations.
• Optimising maintenance strategies based on contract goals.
• Supporting strategic reporting towards management and customers.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

• Building and maintaining strong long‑term relationships on strategic and tactical levels.
• Acting as the primary point of contact for contractual, commercial and performance matters.
• Advising customers on asset performance, lifecycle optimisation, and contract structures.
• Identifying upsell, cross‑sell and contract expansion opportunities.
• Leading contract negotiations for changes, renewals, claims, and disputes.
• Positioning Alfen as a strategic service partner for energy storage solutions.

Risk & Compliance Management

• Identifying, assessing, and mitigating contractual, technical, and financial risks.
• Designing and applying risk‑sharing mechanisms in contract structures.
• Ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, contractual obligations, and audit requirements.
• Managing claims, escalations, and disputes in collaboration with Legal and Finance.
• Ensuring complete, auditable, and compliant documentation.

What do we ask of you?

• HBO+/WO degree in Business Administration, Law, Engineering or Economics.
• At least 5 years of experience in contract management, service management, or project management.
• Experience in designing, negotiating, and managing long‑term service contracts.
• Proven experience in KPI‑driven and performance‑based contract environments.
• Background in capital‑intensive sectors (energy, infrastructure, industry).
• Strong commercial skills, including P&L steering, business cases, and profitability analysis.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary environments and stakeholder management.
• Data‑driven and analytically strong, with the ability to steer performance.
• Fluent in Dutch and English.
• Strong communicator, persuasive and results‑oriented.
