Lead Software Engineer ESS

In this role as Lead Software Engineer, you are the technical owner responsible for developing advanced software for energy storage systems (ESS). You’ll play a crucial role in creating innovative solutions that accelerate the energy transition, while leading a team of passionate software engineers to ensure quality and efficiency. As a technical leader, you act as both mentor and strategist, contributing to the vision and long-term planning of Alfen’s software product portfolio.

What will you do?

As Lead Software Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership to a team of software engineers and develop strategic, high-impact software solutions for ESS. You’re an expert in software architecture and ensure the software meets the highest standards for performance, scalability, and reliability. In this role, you’ll help shape the future of Alfen’s technologies.

Your responsibilities include:

• Leading technical development projects: Coordinate software development for energy storage systems (ESS), ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and up to the highest quality standards.

• Vision and strategy: Help define the long-term strategy for software development and contribute to Alfen's product vision, keeping the company ahead in technological innovation within the energy transition.

• Collaborate and share knowledge: Promote collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing within the team.

• Architecture and innovation: Design robust, scalable, and flexible software architectures and play a key role in evaluating and implementing new technologies and tools that boost efficiency.

• Stakeholder management: Work closely with other departments (e.g., product management, hardware engineering) to align on technical requirements and project priorities.

• Continuous improvement: Enhance development processes through best practices, advanced testing strategies, and code reviews.

What do we ask of you?

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer with proven leadership qualities and deep technical expertise. You have:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (HBO), preferably in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• At least 8 years of software development experience, with strong knowledge of C, C++, Python, and Linux.

• Experience in developing software for energy storage systems (ESS) or industrial systems is a must.

• In-depth knowledge of software architecture and experience in leading technical teams.

• Experience working in an Agile development environment.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with various stakeholders at different levels.

• A long-term vision and the ability to make strategic technical decisions.
