Alfen Elkamo selected as preferred substation supplier for three major grid companies

Alfen's Finnish subsidiary, Alfen Elkamo, has been selected as the preferred substation supplier for three major grid companies in the eastern part of Finland. The agreement concerns the supply of 300 ELMO substations per year to three different grid companies: Savon Voima Verkko Oy, Kymenlaakson Sähköverkko and Järvi-Suomen Energia. The agreement initially covers a period of three years and can then be extended twice for two years.

Alfen Elkamo has obtained this important contract from a joint tender of Savon Voima Verkko Oy, Kymenlaakson Sähköverkko and Järvi-Suomen Energia. This joint tender was issued in order to achieve synergy benefits through joint procurement. The framework agreement applies to the annual purchase of transformer substations in 2021-2023. The three grid companies together are distributing power to 326,000 customers.

Mika Matikainen, Network Manager of Järvi-Suomen Energia says: "For us but also for Savon Voima Verkko Oy and Kymenlaakson Sähköverkko, it is very important to work with reliable partners like Alfen Elkamo when purchasing critical components such as transformer substations. Substations play a crucial role, both in improving the security of supply and in building intelligent networks. Joint procurement offers the most technically and economically responsible solutions for every need. We have confidence in this framework agreement and our partners with whom we would like to continue cooperating."

Seppo Tupeli, CEO of Alfen Elkamo Oy, says: “We are proud to deliver our substations to all three grid operators. Through our technical knowledge and reliability, we have gained our customers’ trust, which is important to us and a good starting point for our cooperation in the years to come. Additionally, we are grateful and delighted that we can support Savon Voima Verkko Oy, Kymenlaakson Sähköverkko and Järvi-Suomen Energia in achieving benefits the joint agreement seeks. With this in mind, we are also constantly developing our products, production processes and our people to meet the requirements that the implementation of the future smart grid will require."
