Alfen selected to supply 10MW energy storage system to Greenchoice Hartel windfarm
Greenchoice selected Alfen to supply an energy storage system connected to its Hartel windfarm in the harbor of Rotterdam. This windfarm consists of eight wind turbines, delivering on average 68 GWh of green energy for 18,000 households. The 10MW (10MWh) energy storage system will be deployed to smooth the fluctuating energy output of the wind farm and to ensure stability of the power grid as the amount of renewable energy further grows.
Stephanie Schockaert, sales manager at Alfen, comments: “We will deliver a 10MW system consisting of six containerized battery energy storage units with pre-integrated batteries, power conversion, acclimatization, and a transformer compartment. This concept of pre-assembled building blocks is the basis for our plug & play solution which minimizes the time required on-site. This modular concept also allows for future expansions or transportation of the system to another location. Next to the storage system we will also integrate the system in the local power grid.”
Alexander Roepers, business developer at Greenchoice, adds: “We selected Alfen not only because of its extensive experience with the power grid, energy storage systems and its modular plug & play design, but also because of their agility, local presence and full service model. With this storage system we seek to further prepare ourselves for the large-scale integration of renewable energy on the power grid. In Alfen we found a partner that shares our ambitions and supports us with new business ideas.”
