Alfen supplies the European Commission with Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles
GHENT, BELGIUM – Alfen has won a tender to supply the European Commission offices in Brussels with charging equipment for electric vehicles (EVs). Alfen will also provide its online management tool for real-time insights in charging behavior and remote control of the chargers. The roll-out of the first phase of 60 chargers is taking place in September 2017.
The decision to implement charging infrastructure at its offices is in line with the EU rules which encourage the installment of publicly accessible chargers for electric cars across Member States. This includes parking lots used by many people, for example in big apartment blocks or office buildings.
In a first phase, 60 chargers of the model ‘Eve’, Alfen’s smart charger with two outlets, will be installed in various parking lots of the European Commission around Brussels. Via Alfen’s backend management system, the system operators have real-time visibility on the status and usage of the chargers.
Yves Vercammen, sales manager at Alfen Belgium, comments: “This project fits with our ambition to offer high-end charging stations for all applications. Recently we started to deliver our public chargers to equip 305 Flemish cities with charging equipment by the end of 2017. Alfen is also working on multiple energy storage systems for grid operators and utilities in Belgium. We believe this combination of products and systems is needed to make our energy grid ready for the future.”
With smart grid solutions, energy storage systems, charging stations for electric vehicles and a diverse portfolio of other products, systems and services, Alfen has a central and connecting role in the energy grid.
Alfen’s transformer substations provide millions of households and companies with energy, while thousands of electric vehicles make daily use of Alfen’s charging stations. The Alfen energy storage system is used for applications such as load balancing, energy trading, frequency regulation and creating autonomous electricity grids in combination with solar or wind energy.
With its large range of in-house developed products and vast experience as systems integrator, Alfen is building the electricity grid of the future: reliable, sustainable and innovative.
