Lead Product Development Engineer EVC
Build smart technology for Europe’s energy supply! As a Lead Product Development Engineer at Alfen, you will lead the mechanical development of our EVC products. You create innovative, scalable, and future-proof charging solutions that accelerate the energy transition.
What will you do?
As Lead Product Development Engineer, you are a key player within the R&D department and take the lead in the mechanical development and integration of new products, components, and systems for EVC. You oversee the entire development process—from concept and prototyping to mass production and market introduction—and provide technical guidance on quality, manufacturability, safety, and performance.
You work closely with engineers from various disciplines, safeguard technical decisions, and ensure a solid design flow. In addition, you act as a mentor for junior and mid-level engineers and actively contribute to a professional and structured development organization.
Your main tasks:
- Translate use cases, product applications, and customer requirements into clear technical specifications and system directions.
- Take the lead in developing new mechanical concepts and product platforms for EVC.
- Dimension structures with the right material choices (sheet metal, welded constructions, turning and milling in metal and plastic).
- Manage the complete 3D and 2D design definition, including Bill of Materials.
- Apply dFMEA, DfX, and tolerance analyses to ensure robust and manufacturable designs.
- Monitor design quality and standards and lead technical reviews.
- Collaborate intensively with electronics, thermal, and system engineers for optimal integration.
- Guide and coach less experienced colleagues within the development team.
What do we ask of you?
You are an experienced engineer who thinks ahead, takes technical responsibility, and drives innovation. You work in a structured way, seek collaboration, and have a strong drive to develop high-quality products that make an impact on the energy transition. You also live in the Netherlands and have the right to work here. Furthermore, you bring:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, or similar.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development in a high-tech or industrial environment.
- Strong experience with structural calculations, material applications, and production methods (sheet metal, machining, plastics).
- Proven experience with DfX, dFMEA, and iterative development methods.
- Excellent proficiency in 3D CAD tools (preferably Creo).
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems (Windchill is a plus).
- Experience with integration of (power) electronics is an advantage.
- Ability to justify technical decisions, engage colleagues, and provide direction in development.
What do we offer you?
At Alfen, you work on technology that is essential for the future of energy. You get the space to innovate, set direction, and truly contribute to products used across Europe every day. We offer:
- A competitive salary according to the Metalektro Collective Labor Agreement.
- 27 vacation days + 13 ADV days per year.
- Flexible working hours and hybrid working (up to 2 days per week from home).
- Company laptop.
- Travel allowance (€0.23 per km up to a maximum of 50 km one way).
- Pension scheme via PME with a generous contribution from Alfen.
- Access to our online learning platform for professional development.
- An open, energetic, and collegial culture where innovation and fun go hand in hand.
Where will you work?
You will work from Alfen’s headquarters in Almere, where engineering, production, and project management collaborate closely under one roof. From here, you contribute to projects that directly support the energy transition in the Netherlands and Europe.
