Join Alfen as a Senior EMC Test Engineer and ensure robust, reliable and standards‑compliant EV charging solutions. Work hands‑on within R&D to optimize EMC performance and directly contribute to safe, high‑quality technology driving the energy transition.
What will you do?
As a Senior EMC Test Engineer in the R&D Test & Compliance team, you are the subject‑matter expert in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Your primary focus is performing, analysing and improving EMC tests for our EV charging solutions, working extensively with our new anechoic EMC chamber and advanced measurement equipment.
You help our development teams identify, analyse and solve EMC issues early in the design process, ensuring our products meet the highest international standards.
Your key responsibilities:
EMC Testing (core of the role)
- Performing EMC emission and immunity tests on EV charging hardware
- Setting up, optimizing and improving test configurations in a (semi-)anechoic EMC chamber
- Conducting pre‑compliance EMC tests during product development
- Analysing, interpreting and reporting measurement results
Technical support to development teams
- Advising hardware engineers on EMC‑robust design principles
- Supporting PCB layout, filtering, shielding and mitigation strategies
- Translating test results into concrete design improvements
Standards and certification
- Interpreting and applying relevant EMC standards (EN 61851, EN 61000 series, CISPR)
- Supporting certification processes with external laboratories such as Kiwa and Dekra
Process improvement
- Developing and refining test methods, procedures and measurement strategies
- Documenting test setups and measurement results
- Contributing to the further professionalization of EMC testing within R&D
What do we ask of you?
We are looking for a technically driven professional with a hands‑on and structured approach. You are the technical authority in the field of EMC within our multidisciplinary R&D environment, take the lead in technical decision‑making, and act as a strong sparring partner for hardware engineers, system architects and the Technical Product Manager in strategic engineering discussions. Additionally:
- A completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electromagnetics or another relevant technical field.
- Demonstrated experience (minimum of 7 years) in EMC testing within industrial electronics, automotive or power electronics environments.
- Proven experience performing emission and immunity testing in a (semi-)anechoic EMC chamber.
- Experience with EMC measurement techniques, measurement equipment and pre‑compliance testing.
- Solid knowledge of EMC standards such as the EN 61000 series, CISPR, and preferably EN 61851.
- Experience translating EMC test results into concrete design improvements, including PCB layout, filtering, shielding and mitigation strategies.
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Nice to have experience with EV charging technology and certification processes with institutes such as Kiwa or Dekra.
What do we offer you?
At Alfen, we offer a responsible and independent role where your technical expertise directly influences our new product developments. You get plenty of room for your own ideas, initiatives and professional growth. You can expect:
